Description

Substance use disorders oftentimes occur alongside eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. This webinar will provide strategies for effectively conceptualizing and treating this comorbid patient presentation. There will be a focus on the implementation of digital tools to support treatment goals and increase patient motivation, which has become paramount in the context of remote care delivery. The majority of the presentation will focus on psychotherapeutic interventions, with an emphasis on evidence-based strategies.

Presenter

Elissa Chakoff Martinez, MEd, EdS, LMFT, is the Clinical Implementation Manager at Recovery Record and Recovery Path. In this role, she trains specialist providers in the implementation of digital therapeutics, develops clinical best practices, and oversees review of clinical product requirements. Martinez is a licensed marriage and family therapist and qualified clinical supervisor, currently working towards her Doctoral degree in counseling. She has clinical and managerial experience working at the residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient levels of care, specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, co-occurring substance use disorders, and family counseling.

Learning Objectives
  • Participants will be to describe at least two effective methods for treating eating disorders and substance use disorders.
  • Participants will be able to summarize strategies for increasing and sustaining motivation for change.
  • Participants will be able to apply at least three treatment strategies that can be used to effectively treat eating disorders and substance use disorders concurrently.
Content Level

Beginner and Intermediate

  • Beginning level courses introduce learners to a content area; include information about a condition, treatment method, or issue; and involve learning and comprehending content.
  • Intermediate level courses provide information that builds on knowledge practitioners with some experience already have. These courses focus on skill-building or adding knowledge, possibly following a brief overview of basic information, and involve using information in concrete situations and understanding the underlying structure of the material.
