SAMHSA-NAADAC Workforce Development Activities for National Recovery Month

ALEXANDRIA, VA – NAADAC and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) have joined forces to strengthen and build the substance use and mental health professional workforce by sponsoring two webinars that will focus on recruitment and retention in the addiction and mental health counselor workforce and four Workforce Forums for freshman and sophomore college/university students about the benefits and opportunities in the substance use and mental health disorder professions in the hope of increasing the number of college/university students choosing to enter the behavioral health field and specializing in these disciplines.

The webinars, entitled Focus on the Addiction and Mental Health Workforce: Increasing Recruitment For Today and Tomorrow and Focus on the Addiction and Mental Health Workforce: Increasing Retention For Today and Tomorrow, will highlight examples for state initiatives and practitioners and tools and resources that highlight current innovative practices throughout the nation will also be discussed and available to download. The webinars will take place on September 12th at 4:00 pm ET and September 19th at 4:00 pm ET, respectively, and will be available on NAAADAC’s website for on-demand viewing. Everyone can participate in the webinar for free. Members of NAADAC receive a Certificate of Completion for 1.5 CEs for FREE by watching all of this webinar and passing an online CE quiz ($20 for non-members). 

Located throughout the country, the four regional Workforce Forums will focus on: the rewarding benefits of the substance use and mental health disorder disciplines that deliver not only a fulfilling life of helping others, but the opportunity for advancement and creativity; each state's workforce needs; state certification and licensing requirements and national certification opportunities; networking and mentoring connections; and other professional development opportunities.  All four forums will be streamed online live and captured for archiving on NAADAC's YouTube Channel.
