ONDCP Briefing at the White House

The ONDCP Briefing was held on August the  2nd  at the White House and there were about 40 professionals and organizations in attendance representing addiction treatment from across the United States. NAADAC's President, Gerard Schmidt, MA, MAC, LPC, CAC, attended on behalf on NAADAC.  Acting Director Baum and his chief of staff, Chip Muir, laid out a comprehensive vision of where they see the ONDCP going. They expressed their committment to seeking input from the addiction profession and will be traveling the country to get this input.  Mr. Baum is especially interested in models of success and identifying treatment gaps are and how the ONDCP can help to fill those gaps.

“It was an impressive event and so refreshing to hear the openness that was being expressed," said Schmidt. "I believe Mr. Baum wants to know where the gaps in addiction treatment services are and how he and his office can meet those needs.”

A few questions were taken from those in attendance and he said they will be contacting all in attendace in the near future about returning but in small groups so there can be some individualized collecting of information and processing.
