On November 14, 2019, NAADAC Executive Director Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, BSW, NCAC II, CDC III, SAP, traveled to Hong Kong, China to participate in a Professional Training for Certified Addiction Counselor, Level I & II Certification hosted by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.
Moreno Tuohy joined a diverse multi-disciplinary training team, which included a psychiatrist, a medical doctor, a sex therapist, a clinical psychologist, a lawyer, and addiction specialists.
Moreno Tuohy spent two days training attendees for a new SUD Master-level cohort. The first day was spent reviewing ethics and the second day was focused on discharge planning, relapse prevention, and clinical supervision. Moreno Tuohy also spent time conducting file reviews of current certifications for quality and adherence to NCC AP standards.
Since 2014, NAADAC has been working to develop a NAADAC Affiliate and Certification Board that is administered by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. While in Hong Kong, Moreno Tuohy met with of the members of the Asia Pacific Affiliate and Certification Board including NCC AP Commissioner Elda Chan, PhD, MAC, Grad. Dip. Family Therapy, to set goals for the future in Hong Kong, China, Macau and Taiwan.
