On January 12, 2018, the Massachusetts Association of Addiction Professionals (MAADAC), NAADAC’s Massachusetts affiliate, held its annual meeting. More than 60 members gathered in Westborough, MA from across the state to listen to educational presentations, network with like-minded peers, and learn about what the Massachusetts affiliate has planned for 2018.
Highlights included MAADAC president Gary Blanchard handing over the reins to its new president, Joe Kelleher, and presentations from:
- Kathryn Power, MEd, a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Regional Administrator for Region 1 (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont);
- Jen Parks, MSW, Workforce Development & Training Coordinator from the Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Service;
- Maryanne Frangules, co-founder of Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery (MOAR); and
- Thomas Durham, NAADAC Director of Training, PhD, LADC.
Durham, NAADAC’s Director of Training, spoke about the Four Pillars of NAADAC – Professional Development, Public Engagement, Professional Services, and Communicate the Mission – which underlay the very reasons for NAADAC as an organization. A veteran MAADAC member himself, Durham remarked that, “MAADAC is an active and well-organized affiliate with much enthusiasm and passion expressed by members.”
MAADAC’s next meeting will be the 29th Annual Golf Fundraiser on Friday, May 18th at the Heritage Country Club in Charlton, MA.
