Description
Though we may specialize in providing help with drug-specific behavior, every client we work with also presents with a mental health and or situational problem. We want to stay within our scope of practice, but also address the immediate concerns of our clients. Short of fragmenting services by referring to a mental health counselor or simply sending clients for medication, how can we help? This webinar introduces mastery problem-solving as a way to address psychological and situational problems within the scope of our practice. It introduces a structure and skills that can be adapted to individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. It incorporates a provision for building up skills and expertise. It’s good preparation for a field moving toward integrated care.
Presenter
Robert Schwebel, PhD, has worked in mental health and drug counseling for more than 50 years. His books include Saying No Is Not Enough; Keep Your Kids Tobacco-Free; Leap of Power: Take Control of Alcohol, Drugs, and Your Life; and Who’s on Top, Who’s on Bottom: How Couples Can Learn to Share Power. He wrote and developed The Seven Challenges® Program for adolescents and young adults and recently, a version for adults of any age. Schwebel has facilitated hundreds of trainings for professionals and leads the Seven Challenges training team. He has appeared on Oprah, The Today Show, The CBS Early Show, CNN interviews, and other national media. He writes for thefix.com and Psychology Today. Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to describe a format for integrating drug use behavior change into life counseling.
- Participants will be able to summarize the six stages of mastery problem-solving.
- Participants will be able to learn to identify, narrow down, and clarify issues they want to address during sessions.

Earn 1 Continuing Education Hour (CE)
To earn a CE Certificate for viewing this webinar, you must view the webinar in its entirety, pass the CE quiz, and complete the online survey evaluation.
- Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz in the NAADAC Education Center and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $15 processing fee to access the quiz.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available in your account in the NAADAC Education Center to download and print. All certificates will be stored in the NAADAC Education Center under your profile name.
