Description
Adolescents with substance use disorders are a special population with special needs. Building a therapeutic alliance with them can be difficult and challenging. This webinar provides a skill- and metaphor-based method for conceptualizing the therapeutic alliance with adolescents. It will provide clinicians with the tools that are necessary for creating a therapeutic bond with an often untrusting, resistant population.
Learning Objectives
As a result of participating in this webinar, you will be able to:
- achieve an understanding of the specific skills that assist in forming a therapeutic relationship with a teen and why the use of skills is preferred over a manualized process;
- be able to use the “House Metaphor” as a tool in clinical observation and as a developmental model of therapeutic relationships with adolescents; and
- understand why alliance means relationship.
