How are SAMHSA and HRSA Supporting the Addiction Workforce?, presented by Anne Herron, Elizabeth Kittrie, DrPH Candidate, and Israil Ali, MPA

Anne Herron, from SAMHSA, will discuss SAMHSA’s activities to support and enhance the behavioral health workforce, including our collaborative work with other Federal agencies and state-level trends that we are tracking. These trends include the use of incentives for recruitment and retention, the expansion of professional compacts, and the explosion of digital apps and prescription digital therapeutics. Israil Ali, MPA, from HRSA, will discuss the need to meet the challenges of our nation’s addiction crisis with a workforce that is trained, educated, and equipped to tackle the complex task at hand. As such, investment in the addiction workforce is of paramount importance. Ali will identify existing resources and programs that support the workforce. He will also discuss the legislative challenges to bolstering the professions that help meet the critical demand for treatment and recovery services across our country. Elizabeth Kittrie, DrPH Candidate, also from HRSA, will discuss behavioral health workforce shortages with a focus on those that are relevant to the addiction workforce. She will also cover relevant HRSA grant investments, including open opportunities and accomplishments to date.
