Aug 14-16	Trauma-Informed Care Creating an Awareness Perspective Free OASAS Sponsored Regional Trainings August 14-15, 2013 Cortland, NY Trauma-informed care is an approach to engaging people with histories of trauma that recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role that trauma has played in their lives. This training is designed as a practical overview and will cover Trauma-Informed Care from the perspective of how to create strengths-based environments and practices that allow for participant/survivor empowerment. Participants are required to attend the full 12 hours of training to receive a certificate of completion. There will be no tuition charge for this training. More information
Aug 27-29	Treatment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Individuals An Introduction to Substance Abuse Treatment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Individuals August 27 - 28, 2013 Buffalo, NY The foundation for this two day training is the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration\\\'s (SAMHSA\\\'s) publication entitled: A Provider\\\'s Introduction to Substance Abuse Treatment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Individuals. The goal of the publication was to improve and advance substance abuse treatment for a community of individuals whose health care needs are often ignored, denigrated, or denied. The training presents information to assist providers in improving substance abuse treatment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans-gender (LGBT) clients by raising awareness about the issues unique to LGBT clients. Sep 17-20	Cultural Competency Cultural Competency in Substance Abuse Treatment and Prevention The Consciousness Raising and Affective Component September 17 - 19, 2013 West Brentwood, NY This three (3) day training is a highly experiential training, in which participants will examine their own biases, prejudices, and stereotypes. It is not designed to provide the practice skills needed to work with specific racial, ethnic, or cultural groups, but rather to provide a forum for self-exploration. It will be an intellectually and emotionally challenging experience. More information
