Corrections

It seems that addiction counseling is a paramount part of rehabilitation, but still many incarcerated individuals do not have access to treatment programs. I think it would be great if the NAADAC would work with a group like the American Correction Association (ACA) to develop more online training courses and possibly even a level of certification for correctional staff, and help develop guidelines that put more emphasis on addiction counseling programs.

I wholeheartedly agree! What a team ACA and NAADAC. I think this would raise NAADAC stature even with the IC and RC debate. These two powerhouses together would knock the socks off IC and RC. Does NAADAC have a Corrections Committee??

Yes,I also agree we need to help inmates get better info on addiction prevention while in prison. Also need to have them go to treatment after release, even if it's outpatient treatment or chemical free living center.
You might be interested to know that California with an assist form the Navy have trained and are training over 100 inmates to provide counseling in the prison treatment centers  and other jobs working with gangs etc. when they get out.  The education and training program that they complete will qualify to take certification exams and ultimately be fully cerified.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction has alcohol and drug treatment and education programs in each of our prisons that are staffed by counselors who are licensed. We also provide transitional services when the inmate reenters society to continue his/her care...I think an alliance with NAADAC and ACA would be great....I am available to assist in any way.  440-748-1049 ext.254....donald.christian@odrc.state.oh.us
