Biography
Throughout his 30 plus years of experience in addiction counseling, prevention and administration, and as a former President of NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals and it’s current Secretary, Roger A. Curtiss has been an ardent and steadfast advocate for the addiction profession and the individuals its serves. Currently, Curtiss is the retired CEO of the Walker Center, of Gooding, Idaho and lives in Great Falls, Mont. Curtiss' career has included addiction counseling, program management and leadership at several treatment facilities in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. Prior to his position as CEO, of the Walker Center and retirement, Curtiss was Clinical Manager for Gateway Community Services, in Great Falls, Mont., and Director of Alcohol & Drug Services of Anaconda/Deer Lodge County, Mont. He has previously served as Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Treatment Center in Great Falls, Mont., Executive Director of Alcohol and Drug Services in Bozeman, MT, Director of Powder River Chemical Dependency in Gillette, WY and Director of Treatment at Northern Montana Chemical Dependency in Havre, Mont. Curtiss began his career as a halfway house manager and an outpatient counselor in Butte, Mont., after starting his own recovery from alcoholism. Curtiss served briefly as NAADAC President Elect, before serving as it’s 13th President from 2002-2004. Prior to that, he was elected twice as NAADAC Northwest Regional Vice President (1994-1998) and served two terms as NAADAC Treasurer (1998-2002). He has chaired numerous NAADAC committees, including board of directors, personnel, and finance, and he currently serves as the chairperson of the national leadership and membership committees. He testified before the 2006 United States Senate National Town Hall on Meth Awareness and Prevention, led a delegation of addiction professionals to South Africa to help with their HIV/AIDS epidemic, as well as providing much needed addiction professional counselors to provide addiction services after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. Curtiss has received numerous awards and recognition for his leadership and dedication on behalf of addiction professionals and individuals in recovery. Some of these award’s include the 2010 “Outstanding Leader Award” from NAADAC, as well as two awards from MAADAC, the Montana Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors; in 1998 the "Advancement of the Substance Abuse Profession Award" and the 1999 “Presidents Award.” Also, he was presented the 1992 "Wyoming Substance Abuse Director of the Year Award", as well as the “Boss of the Year Award” in Gillette, WY from the Professional Secretaries International. He earned the 2000 "Founders Award," presented by Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), for his leadership in forming the Gallatin County Drug Treatment Court, in Bozeman, Mont. Curtiss has been a NAADAC member since 1991, a Licensed Addiction Counselor in Montana since 1983, and is a Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor II. Curtiss is married to Kathleen J. Curtiss, a retired Montana Licensed Addiction Counselor and Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor II. They have six children and nine grandchildren. |
