Dear Professional,
Historically, addiction services professionals have been at the forefront of innovation when assessing new or innovative methods of prevention, intervention, treatment and aftercare. Bio-psycho-social-spiritual treatments have traditionally been the mainstay of alcohol and drug treatment programs, but since the 1950’s, there have also been medications that can assist clients in reaching their recovery goals. However, the history of this profession lies in the tradition of self-help programs, which often tend to minimize the use of medications in recovery.
NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, is providing unbiased, comprehensive and informative educational seminars that discuss proven methods of addiction counseling and scientifically-researched pharmacotherapies. NAADAC has developed several educational seminars as part of NAADAC’s Life-Long Learning Series, including Medication Management for Addiction Professionals and Pharmacotherapy: Integrating New Tools into Practice. These educational seminars provide addiction and other helping professionals with specific information and research regarding the four pharmacotherapies approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Today’s educational lunch seminar builds on this foundation by addressing the integration of Motivational Interviewing, the Stages of Change model and pharmacotherapy.
NAADAC recognizes that even though pharmacotherapies can enhance treatment outcomes for some patients, they can only be effectively utilized if addiction and other helping professionals know how to appropriately use and incorporate them into a patient’s individualized treatment plan. With careful research, comprehensive education and mindful integration, addiction and other helping professionals can assist their patients in more complete and holistic ways.
Undoubtedly, this is an exciting time for the addiction profession. Patients and counselors have more resources, information and treatment options readily available to them than ever before. NAADAC pledges to expand its Life-Long Learning Series and continue to offer quality continuing education and training as new approaches to treatment become available. Thank you for your participation in today’s educational program and for expanding your toolbox of treatment resources.
Together, we can and are making a difference!
Sincerely,

Patricia M. Greer, LCDC, AAC
President of NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals
