Addiction Pharmacology (8:00AM)
Presented by the Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals. December 6-7, 2013 January 2014 (TBD) February 2014 (TBD) Each three-month course is $255 for MAAP/NAADAC members and $300 for non-members. Addiction Pharmacology will familiarize the student with the basic pharmacological properties, effects and consequences of alcohol and drug abuse in our society. Provides 45 contact hours of instruction - 15 hours each weekend.
After completing the four Core Courses, students will have earned 180 contact hours toward the 270 hours required for certification.

Knowledge and skill in motivational interviewing are critical tools in working with resistant and other client populations. The appropriate use of motivational interviewing (MI) is also critical. Clinicians working with clients with certain disorders such as personality and anti-social personality disorders will need to use caution utilizing MI. This training will discuss the typical use of Motivational Interviewing, but also discuss some of the key issues and challenges in using MI with certain disorders and populations. We will also address special skills needed, how to adjust treatment and how and when to use MI with the more challenging populations.
