Carrie Reaume, LMSW, CAAC is Director of Behavioral Health Services at The Guidance Center in Southgate, Mich. Reaume has volunteered and worked for over 15 years in the addictions profession. She has developed and implemented substance abuse prevention and treatment programs in Saginaw and Southgate, working with both adults and adolescents. She is a graduate of The University of Michigan with a Masters Degree in Social Work. She has dedicated her career to working with people who struggle with addiction and has developed many services to assist them in their recovery. She has a passion for supporting issues related to advocating and organizing services to support at-risk children, adolescents and adults.

Shannon Rozell serves as External Relations Liaison at Henry Ford Maplegrove Center. Shannon currently serves on another Board of Directors as the President/Chair of PACT (Parents And Community Together) in Saline Michigan. Shannon also teaches an eight-week prevention/intervention/education program for adolescents and authored a 3-part curriculum book series for the P.I.E. program (Prevention, Intervention, Education) titled “Play-It-Through”. Shannon holds a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) and hopes to pursue a PhD in Neuropsychology in the near future.

Michael Burke is a motivational speaker and lecturer in the field of cross-addiction and compulsive gambling. He does a regular lecture series for patients at Brighton Hospital in Brighton, Michigan. He also presents quarterly workshops at the hospital, which are open to therapists (CAC credits given) and to the general public.

Burke works with NSO (Neighborhood Service Organization) in Detroit, Mich., as a part of its speaker's bureau, giving statewide presentations on gambling and cross-addiction. He has also done presentations on behalf of the American Bar Association, the Michigan Bar Association, local bar chapters, MAPG (Michigan Association of Problem Gamblers) and the National Association of Social Workers. He is currently working with the Pokagon Tribe in New Buffalo, Michigan to set up improved treatment opportunities for compulsive gamblers in the state of Michigan.

Burke's former work experience includes twenty-five years as a practicing attorney specializing in legal problems of individuals suffering from substance abuse, a position on the Brighton Hospital Board of Directors and leadership roles in many community organizations. He has had articles published in the Legal News, and the MBA and ABA journals. He has authored a book entitled Never Enough to be released by the American Bar Association in May 2008.

Detective First Lieutenant (D/F/Lt.) Timothy Gill is a native of the Lansing area and has been employed by the Michigan State Police for over twenty-one years. He is the Commander of the Michigan State Police - First District Drug Task Force Section and has oversight of four drug task force teams that collectively encompass eight counties (Gratiot, Shiawassee, Clinton, Ingham, Eaton, Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale counties). All four teams are undercover operations that investigate illegal drug trafficking activity and other major/violent crimes.

Gill actively works with prevention and treatment professionals and is the Chairperson for the Community Action Against Substance Abuse Coalition (CAASAC). D/F/Lt. Gill is also a Coordinating Council and the Eaton County Substance Abuse Advisory Group. He is a member of the Tri-County Area Alcohol Awareness Committee, which is a group of prevention, treatment, law enforcement, school, and business professionals that work to reduce underage drinking. These efforts include the Safe Prom Initiative, which he conceived and implemented.

Terry Newton has been counseling in the addiction field since 1978 beginning with the Veteran’s Services program at “Prodigal House” in Minneapolis, MN for Viet Nam Vets. In Terry’s vast career, he has guided clients at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Hazelden Fellowship Club in St. Paul, MN, Adolescent Half-Way Houses “Shanti House” and “Way-12” in Minneapolis, MN, and Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, CA. For the last 20 years, Terry Newton has successfully served Harbor Hall as its Executive Director.
In his free time Terry enjoys an active role in Petoskey’s Rotary Club, indulges his green thumb as a serious gardener (with a previous degree in Landscape Design), and engages in Northern Michigan’s year-round outdoor recreation as a cross-country bicyclist, kayaker, walker, skier and snowshoe fanatic. He has been married to his lovely bride Elizabeth since 1986 and has fun spoiling many nieces and nephews.

Kevin O’Hare is the Executive Director of Gateway to Recovery and the owner of Touchstone Recovery and Pathways Program.  He has ten years of experience as a volunteer and substance abuse professional and is a graduate of the University of Arizona.

O’Hare is active in Michigan and California, supporting parity laws for mental health and substance abuse treatment.  He is a member of the Southeastern Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) Substance Abuse Advisory Board, the Drug Court Advisory Board for the 28th District Court and the Advisory Board for Maplegrove Kid’s Camps.




Jeffrey Steenbergh MSW, LMSW, CAAC, CBIS, SAP

Jeffrey Steenbergh is a Clinical Therapist at Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center, Inc. in Memphis, Mich.  He holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in Social Work from Wayne State University.  Additionally, Steenbergh is a Certified Advanced Addictions Counselor (CAAC), a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) and is a qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) for the U.S. Department of Transportation.  Steenbergh’s expertise is in the area of co-occurring addiction, traumatic brain injury and other catastrophic injuries.  Steenbergh also provides training for professionals and organizations on a number of addiction-related topics.

Greg Stone is a Certified Addiction Counselor-M, an Internationally Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional and a Certified MRT Facilitator.  He has been working in the alcohol and drug addiction profession for 19 years. Greg is also a recovering addict who is 21 years clean. Experienced in all levels of care, he began his professional career at Glenbeigh Hospital in Miami, Fla., prior to moving to Traverse City, Mich. He worked for Addiction Treatment Services in Traverse City for ten years and held various management positions while implementing new programs. He is the owner of Recovery Consulting, LLC whose mission is to help communities build recovery supports and is an addiction educator for Impact Weekend.                                                                          

Stone has presented at the United Auto Workers Community Service Conference, Michigan Office of Community Corrections Advisory Board, Michigan Prisoner Re-entry Initiative, United Way and various schools in Northern Michigan. He served as a volunteer with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Hurricane Katrina Emergency Response Team, working with displaced families and evacuees in Baton Rouge, La. Stone is a member of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals and serves on the board of the Michigan Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors.

Dr. Frankel is the president/executive director of New Start Inc., a company that specializes in individualized treatment of multi-diagnosed individuals (traumatic brain injury/addiction/psychiatric disorders) and their families. New Start is a nationally recognized resource in the area of multi-diagnosis, providing training and consultation services to mental health and addictions treatment agencies throughout the country. Dr. Frankel assisted in developing the country's first hospital-based program for treating multi-diagnosed individuals. The program became a part of Beacon Center for Behavioral Medicine, Detroit Riverview Hospital.

Dr. Frankel has been granted the Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) and the Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC II) certificates by the International Certification Consortium/Alcohol and other Drug Abuse, Inc., and the National Certified Addictions Counselor (NCAC II) credential by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors. He is a graduate of the Detroit Institute of Addiction Research and Training. Dr. Frankel is past president of MAADAC and past Regional Vice-President of NAADAC, serving six states in the Mid-Central Region. He is also a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP), certificate awarded by the Employee Assistance Certification Commission. In addition, Dr. Frankel has been awarded the Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor (CCGC) certificate by the American Compulsive Gambling Counselor Certification Board. Most recently, the American Academy for the Certification of Brain Injury Specialists granted Dr. Frankel the Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) certificate. He is a member of numerous other civic and professional organizations.

Deborah Garrett

Deborah is a woman in long-term recovery. She has been the Chair of Greater Macomb Project Vox, a recovery advocacy group in Macomb County for 5 years. She has completed many trainings and holds certifications in many areas as a facilitator. Those include Faces and Voices of Recovery’s Science of Addiction and Messaging training. She also facilitates educational groups for women in recovery through CARE and is currently pursuing her degree in Psychology.
