Description: According to most recent measures, 22.2 million people (or 8.9 percent of the population aged 12 or older) currently have a substance use disorder. Of these, 19.3 million people are dependent on or abusing alcohol and/or opioids. This population comprises the vast majority of all substance use disorders in the United States, as well as the majority of those individuals seeking treatment for a substance use disorder. Traditional evidence-based therapeutic approaches are highly effective, but with a relapse rate of 40 to 60 percent within the first 12 months of completing treatment, more interventions are required. Over the past decade, the treatment of substance use disorders has entered into a new phase in which medications can play a vital role in helping someone recover. This webinar will discuss how new advancements in pharmacotherapy can help support and augment traditional evidence-based treatment practices for alcohol and opioid dependence. The presenter will discuss the current environment of addiction treatment, outline the psychopharmacology of substance use disorders and introduce the most recent FDA-approved pharmacotherapies for alcohol and opioid dependence. This webinar will also propose strategies for discussing pharmacotherapy with clients who have varying levels of motivation to change their behavior.
Who Should Attend: Addiction professionals, employee assistance professionals, social workers, mental health counselors, professional counselors, psychologists andother helping professionals that are interested in learning about addiction-related matters.
