NAADAC Executive Director Pat Ford-Roegner was among a select group of international experts on addictive disorders policy who addressed the United Kingdom's Members of Parliament April 28, 2004.

Ford-Roegner spoke about similarities, differences, and potential areas of cooperation in addictive disorders policies between the U.S. and England. Topics included drug interdiction, treatment, and workforce development programs for addiction professionals.

The event was sponsored by the UK/European Symposium on Addictive Disorders and the Addiction Recovery Foundation. Other speakers included Professor Tim Sheehan, Dean of Hazeldon Graduate School of Addiction Studies, and Professor Norman Hoffman, a renowned psychologist currently conducting research in co-occuring disorders among the UK's prison population.

While in London, Ford-Roegner also joined other leaders in addiction research, prevention, and treatment to participate in the First UK/European Symposium on Addictive Disorders, April 29-May 1, 2004.

Prior to becoming NAADAC's Executive Director, Ford-Roegner served as a consultant, director of HHS' regional office in Atlanta, and in leadership roles with the American Nurses Association and the Service Employees International Union in Washington, D.C. She is a frequent presenter on public health issues, authored numerous articles, and has held faculty appointments at George Mason University and the University of Maryland.

NAADAC's other recent international activities include assisting countries such as Cyprus and Iceland develop certification programs for addiction professionals. Also, last fall, NAADAC President Roger A. Curtiss led a delegation of addiction professionals on an educational mission to South Africa, and NAADAC Assistant Director for Board, Member, and Affiliate Services Jennifer Ayers attended the Toronto conference of the International Council on Alcohol and Addictions, a membership group reporting to the World Health Organization.
