NAADAC-The Association for Addiction Professionals applauds the formation of the bipartisan Congressional Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus, chaired by Jim Ramstad (R-MN) and Patrick Kennedy (D-RI).

The caucus will promote awareness of chemical addiction issues and increase support for greater access to treatment.

NAADAC plans to mobilize its membership to spread word of the caucus and to encourage members of Congress to join.

"The science is clear that addiction is a chronic brain disease and that it responds well to treatment," said NAADAC President Roger A. Curtiss. "Enacting policies that better reflect this reality can return billions of dollars to the economy and foster stronger families, as well as healthier and safer communities. This caucus is a welcome step in the right direction."

Added NAADAC Government Relations Director Jonathan Westin, "The caucus is another example of the visionary leadership Representatives Ramstad and Kennedy have shown on Capitol Hill in addressing addictive disorders, the nation's number one public health crisis. NAADAC looks forward to proactively working with all of those who join this important new caucus."
