Youth in Long-term Recovery Needed to Help With Outreach and Education

The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), plans to host a meeting in the Spring of 2013,  joining together a diverse group of young people (18-25 years old) in long-term recovery from substance abuse. Help find a group of ambitious young people in recovery to join together and collaborate on ideas for outreach campaigns and best-practices for educating American youth on substance abuse and recovery in different populations. The application process is simply to submit a personal statement (example below) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by January 15, 2013.

Statements will be reviewed and participants will be selected by a team of SAMHSA staff. The statement should be no more than one page: one paragraph of biography and a second a paragraph describing their interest in this meeting.

Personal Statement Example (please provide your bio and personal aspirations. Creativity in designing a personal statement is encouraged, this is only an example):
My name is Jenny Silver. I am 24 years old and have been in long- term recovery since I was 18. I found recovery through a school- assistance program and fellowship meetings.  I grew up in Manhattan. I am a graduate of State University where I studied early-childhood development. I currently work as a grade school teacher. Prior to teaching, I was a coordinator at a small non-profit and enjoying volunteering for local charities. In my free time I like to run marathons and have recently started to knit. I plan to pursue graduate school in the fall of 2013. One day I aspire to earn a PhD!
