Members of Congress are coming - will you be there to help them understand addiction?

Legislators from coast to coast are confirming their attendance at the NAADAC Advocacy in Action Breakfast Briefing  on March 21.  Confirmed so far are House of Representatives members John Sullivan (Oklahoma), Tim Ryan (Ohio) and Mary Bono Mack (California).

Representative John Sullivan is the Co-Chair of the House of Representatives Addiction, Treatment and Recovery (ATR) caucus.  Representative Sullivan knows firsthand the obstacles that face communities as Oklahoma has one of the highest rates of people with mental health and addiction disorders in the country.

Representative Tim Ryan from Ohio is also Co-Chair of the House ATR Caucus.  Representative Ryan was one of eleven members of Congress to urge the administration to “maintain the current structure and fiscal 2011 funding levels” for SAMHSA. This protection is a critical step in protecting substance abuse prevention and treatment programs.

Representative Mary Bono Mack represents the 45th District of California and is a current Vice Co-Chair for the House ATR Caucus.  Representative Bono Mack has been a long-time proponent of policies helping those battling addictive disorders. Her support is personal, having personally witnessed close family members deal with their own substance use disorders.

The three members of Congress will provide an update on the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the implementation of the Parity Act and the current efforts of Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus.
