Christopher C. Campbell has joined NAADAC, the Association of Addiction Professionals, as the new Director of Government Relations, effective June 8th.  He is responsible for ensuring the public policy concerns most important to the addiction professional community - especially insurance parity, federal treatment grants and workforce development - are heard and addressed by policymakers in Washington, D.C. He also will be responsible for building relationships with other Washington-based organizations concerned with addictions policy, aiding the NAADAC Public Policy and Political Action Committees and organizing NAADAC's annual Advocacy Action conference.

Campbell has over ten years’ experience advocating before the Congress and the Executive Branch on a variety of public policy issues affecting children, adolescents, seniors and people with disabilities.  Most recently, Campbell worked at the American Art Therapy Association, where he served as the Association’s first Director of Public Policy and Advocacy and was responsible for building and promoting the Association’s national public policy program.

"We're pleased to add Chris to the NAADAC team, particularly in light of his extensive legislative experience and his previous work with education and counseling issues," said Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, Executive Director of NAADAC.

Gerry Schmidt, Chair of the NAADAC Public Policy Committee added, "I am pleased that we have been able to hire someone with the caliber and experience as Chris.  His background and knowledge in working not only on legislative issues related to addictions and health but his ability to steadfastly promote these issues on the Hill will go a long ways towards advancing NAADAC and its member's agenda.  I am looking forward to working with Chris and his integral part of the Public Policy Committee work.  Our cooperative relationship will assist us in advancing all of those critical issues related to the addiction treatment profession across the United States."

Campbell was the Associate Director of Public Policy and Legislation at the American Counseling Association, where he advocated on behalf of the nation’s school counselors before the United States Congress, federal agencies and education and mental health communities on education, mental health and social policy issues. In addition, from 2005-2009, he served as co-chair of the National Alliance for Pupil Services Organizations (NAPSO), a coalition of national professional organizations whose members provide and support a variety of school-based prevention and intervention services to assist students in becoming effective learners and productive citizens.

Campbell has also worked as a consultant with the American Educational Research Association, as a Public Policy Analyst with the National Association of College and University Business Officers, and as Assistant Director for Public Information Services with the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.  He has worked on numerous political campaigns, and served in the Office of Speechwriting at the White House during the Clinton Administration.  In January 2009, Chris took a leave of absence from his position at ACA to work for the 56th Presidential Inaugural Committee in the Congressional Relations department, serving as a liaison between the Obama-Biden Inaugural Committee and congressional offices.

Campbell, a native of Ohio, received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of Akron.  He also has completed post-graduate coursework in public policy at George Mason University.
