Wisconsin Counselor Honored by Addiction Professional Magazine
March 10, 2010 ALEXANDRIA, Va. - NAADAC member Stephanie Steinman was presented with the Outstanding Clinician Award by Addiction Professional magazine. The second annual award, selects outstanding practitioners who have been nominated by the magazine's readers. Steinman shares the honor with two other clinicians, Joanne Goer and Joseph A. Troncale. Addiction Professional editor, Gary A. Enos, wrote that Steinman has "a depth of commitment and a willingness to break new ground" for her clients and the community that she serves. Steinman, 29, works at the University of Wisconsin Health-Gateway Recovery Clinic in Madison, Wis. Her work focuses on adolescent treatment. “The adolescents she works with see her as an advocate who holds them accountable with compassion and understanding,” said Michael Waupoose, director of the clinic, to Addiction Professional. Steinman, currently on maternity leave, is planning on enrolling in a PhD program, and continuing her with younger clients.
“I decided I wanted to be a therapist in the 8th grade, when we had a job section in our social studies class... I thought, ‘What if I could be the person to help kids with what they go through?’" said Steinman, in an interview with Gary Enos.
