NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, is pleased to announce a Luncheon on Capitol Hill on Thursday, September 6th to celebrate the 18th Annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
The Luncheon will feature celebrity guest speaker: Nikki Sixx, an American bassist and the principal songwriter for heavy metal band Motley Crue. Sixx recently released an album "The Heroin Diaries," with a book of the same name to follow on September 18th. Both the album and book intimately chronicle the most debilitating part of his heroin addiction and the road to recovery that followed.
Additional featured speakers include Dr. Terry Cline Ph.D., Administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and H. Westley Clark MD, JD, Director of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT). Co-emcees Henry Lozano, President/CEO of Community Alliances for Drug Free Youth, Inc. and Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, Executive Director of NAADAC, are pleased to preside over this esteemed panel of speakers and legislators celebrating NAADAC's 35 years of service.
This year's theme, "Join the Voices for Recovery: Saving Lives, Saving Dollars," aims to raise awareness about the financial and human costs of substance use disorders and highlights the benefits that investing in treatment can have on those who enter recovery, their families and the larger community.
Recovery Month has been widely recognized as one of the most successful campaigns in the country for communicating information about public health. The 18th Anniversary Recovery Month Luncheon, which is sponsored by Cephalon and Alkermes, Inc., is an excellent opportunity for addiction services professionals to show their support of Recovery Month.
NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, is the largest membership organization serving addiction counselors, educators and other addiction-focused health care professionals, who specialize in addiction prevention, treatment and education.
Cephalon, Inc., an international biopharmaceutical company, and Alkermes, Inc., a biotechnology company, the event sponsors, aim to help raise awareness about alcoholism as a serious, chronic disease, and its treatment with both medication and counseling through educational initiatives like LIVE outside the bottle.com.
