Patricia Greer, BA, LCDC, AAC
President Elect, NAADAC, The Association for Addiction Professionals

 

Patricia Greer, BA, LCDC, AAC, is a member of the Dallas Chapter of the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP). She is the recipient of the TAAP Elves Smith Counselor of the Year Award, 2005.

Ms. Greer first practiced substance abuse counseling 33 years ago, in the state of Pennsylvania. As a trainee of the Governor's Council on Alcohol and drug abuse, she was trained as a social setting detox counselor, and then therapy supervisor in the halfway house facility known as Quo Vadis. She was introduced to orthomolecular medicine techniques there, which was cutting edge patient care then, and is still considered to be so today. She was also trained as a clinical supervisor in a comprehensive statewide system.

Pat has chosen to work in just about every alcohol and drug related service environment. Administration, counseling, prevention, education, family therapy, and clinical supervision have all been part of her training and work. When she moved to Texas with her family in 1982, she brought her interests in non-profit service delivery with her. Political advocacy has also been a central element of her professional efforts throughout her career.

Additionally:
• In Hunt County, co-developed a Family Education Program with the Council staff
• In Dallas County supervised the Holidays Ahead campaign for 3 years, with the Dallas Council Board of Directors and volunteers.
• Provided training on wellness and burn out prevention for counselors and service providers
• Opened and served as the program director and program services designer for Sundown Ranch in Canton, TX, an adolescent treatment center.
• Served as program coordinator for alcohol and drug services at Green Oaks Hospital in Dallas, TX, a psychiatric facility.
• Opened a private practice offering intervention and post-treatment counseling services.
• Opened Ultrafit, a personal training studio for individuals who wanted to mesh physical recovery with their recovery from addiction.
• Served as secretary, then president of the Dallas Chapter of TAAP.
• Served as the first woman President of the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals, where she oversaw the transition to a new management team for the association. She also established the first dual diagnosis committee, and re-started the Peer Assistance Committee.
• Completed studies for a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy at Texas Women's University.
• Co-chaired the legislative committee in Texas.
• Served as NAADAC Board of Directors representative for Texas
• Served as Program Director for Dr. Rudy Rivera's Health Recovery Center in Plano, TX, which is an alternative medicine based approach to detoxification and recovery.
• Wrote articles for newspapers and appeared in educational pieces for television in Dallas.
• Represented her association in the development of organized advocacy by consumers in Austin, Texas, as part of the Close to Home Coalition, a group that included providers, prevention programs, our single state agency, faith based providers, Texans Standing Tall, and employee assistance providers.
• Coordinated the TAAP state conference in 2003.


Pat Greer has teamed with legislative activists from Texas for the past fourteen years and with Robert Miles has coordinated the TAAP legislative efforts in Austin, TX and Washington, D.C. As Regional Vice President for NAADAC, she was active in supporting TAAP through the years and serves on the Public Policy Committee, the Strategic Vision Committee and is working with the group that is addressing the logistics of a NAADAC and IC&RC merger. Her zeal on behalf of her peers has motivated her to stay committed to her professional association.
As President of NAADAC it was her privilege to lead a People to People tour to St. Petersburg, Russia, and Warsaw, Poland. Her efforts as President include advising the staff re. development of the NERF into a viable business entity for contracting to do training, and to establish alliances in non-profit and revenue producing efforts that have resulted in many opportunities for NAADAC and the NERF. She also facilitated an alliance with the publisher of Psychology Today to include Addictions Professionals on their Therapy Networker web site.
